CONNECTING ISRAEL AND THE CHURCH

Elana Watson, Musician, Recording Artist, Speaker

Elana is the daughter of Merv and Merla Watson, (composers of "Awake O Israel" and "Jehovah Jirah") who are undoubtedly the mother and father of modern day Hebraic Gospel  music.

Coming from a musical family, Elana grew up performing in theatres, cathedrals, synagogues, festivals and on  television and radio in over 30 countries.  She began singing and dancing at the tender age of four and hasn't looked back. Her family moved to Israel where she attended school and learned Hebrew.  During these years Elana sang and danced in the first few "Feast of Tabernacles" celebrations, an annual event in Jerusalem that now draws 6000 Christians from 88 different countries and which her mother and father pioneered.  Her family will be involved this year in the worship and creative programming for a  new Feast of Tabernacles celebration in October 2005 in Jerusalem.  Her family resides in Jerusalem.

A musical chameleon, Elana has performed nearly every conceivable style including Klezmer, African-Ethiopian, Middle Eastern, Latin, Top 40 Pop, Jazz, R&B and Folk music.  She is now gaining an international reputation as a recording artist, songwriter and producer of 6 c.d.'s.  She also sings in different languages including Hebrew, Amharic, and Spanish.  Her latest CD "Rising From The Ashes" is an edgy and  evocative recording which was written in direct response to the Middle East conflicts.  She uses visuals to further the impact as a creative teaching tool while in concert.  Elana believes the best quality in a vocalist is the ability to tell a moving story.

Elana's vocal sound has been likened to such greats as Lena Horne and Judy Garland.  She was the soloist for a series of Gershwin concerts with the Toronto Philharmonic this past year.

Elana tells the story of Israel in a totally unique way.  Through her inspirational music and visual presentation, she will bless you and open up the hearts of your congregation or group to the story of Israel.
